The Slaves 2011 - Important - Please read!
This years Sandridgebury Slaves event will take place on the 8th of July.
HOWEVER due to unforseen circumstances the venue of this years event has been changed due to a temporary issue at the normal Sandridgbury location. This year event is kindly hosted by the Simms family at Kettlewells Farm in between St Albans and Redbourn. (DETAILS CLICK HERE)
If this causes anyone any problems then please do get in touch through the contact page. The last thing we want to do is to distrupt the status quo but it was either a change of location or canclellation and we know what you'd rather do! It is unfortunate that we have had to change venue as the Sandridgebury is such a good site but we have looked hard for a replacement and we belive that Kettlewells will act as a great venue and a change of scenery!

A Massive Thanks!
We would like to thank the Hertfordshire Community Foundation for granting us this year some money through their Grass Roots programme. This money has enabled us to start up two new clubs. Berkhamsted young farmers both junior and senior groups and also Royston & Buntingford Seniors based at Westmill. The money has been spent on preparing and setting up meetings, hire of halls, refreshments, enabling us to help with the growth of these new clubs. Without this money a lot of these events, meetings, visits, talks etc would have not been possible.

Herts YFC Members attend the National Young Farmers Convention and Scoop Prestigious Prize!
Herts YFC once again had a massive proportion of our members get themselves up to blackpool for a wild weekend of funa dn frolics in the name of the National Young Farmers AGM Convention.
Historically just a meeting which gained a following for the nightlife, the annual convention is now a 5000 person strong weekend which covers everything from alot of social to the AGM meeting to more social, meetings, socials, prizgivings, more socials, industry forums and it would be fair to say - more social!
This year Herts YFC has been awarded the Merrick Burrell Trophy for the highest gain in membership over the last 2 years. This is a massive accolade for the county that was really in the duldrums 5 years ago and now is up there knocking the big boys off the top spots!
A massive hand to all those who have worked so hard to make the county as hard hitting as it is now!

Pictures From the 2011 Herts Rally Day Now Online!
A dry but slightly chilly day paid host to the 2011 Herts Rally Day once again held at Cheapside Farm near St Albans. This was the third year that the rally has been held at this location providing an ideal spot and facilities. Thanks go out to all the judges and stewards for all their help, the exhibitors for some brilliant tradestands, the members for getting involved and to the Burrows family for kindly hosting the day.
St Albans Juniors won the day overall but were closely followed by Royston and Buntingford and Berkhamsted. County organiser Linda Watts commented "it was great that it stayed dry and that we had such a great turnout. The handicraft entries were up to a very high standard and everyone had a great day".
County chairman Jamie Burrows added "It was brilliant to see everyone having so much fun! Its a lot of work but it makes it so worth while and we even raised some valuable funds for the county with the disco in the evening. I'm over the moon!"

Berkhamsted Young Farmers Party!!
Date: Saturday 11th September
Time: 8pm til late
Venue: Little Gaddesden Village hall, near Berkhamsted.
Berkhamsted young farmers party was held on Saturday 11th September at a village hall party in Little Gaddesden, which is quite near to Berkhamsted. The night started off very stressful, with a few of us running around setting the hall up, helping the DJ set up. James and I did have a few worries about not being set up in time for 8pm, but with some teamwork and help from a few other members we had enough time to sit down and enjoy a beer and a burger before the rush.

Royston and Buntingford News
Royston & Buntingford Young Countryside’s (Juniors)
R & B Juniors have had an eventful few months. In the County rally they were the winners of the junior handicraft classes. They had a very enjoyable evening at the Young Mariners when 20 members (joined by 3 from N. Herts) went underground caving. There were a few tight squeezes for some members but a very different and enjoyable evening.
Half term 15 members (4 from N. Herts) traveled in a Freman College minibus up to Snowdon, N. Wales. Without too much trouble we found the Herts C.C. Snowdonia Centre, The Old Coach House. After spending the first evening eating fish and chips and taking a walk and paddle in the river in Beddgelent after a very hot journey.
Next morning after a wholesome breakfast we all put on our boots and off on our way. We started our climb and having gone only 50 yards, Janet not looking where she was going tripped over her own feet and took a tumble, good start. Fortunately no more hiccups and off we went. We climbed, and climbed and climbed, “the oldies keeping up the rear”. After 2 hrs we stopped for a break before continuing and reaching the top just 4 hours later. After many photo’s shoots at the top and lots of well earned refreshments we then began the descent this time via the Miners track. 3 members, Sam, James and Katy went via the Watkins Path, which fortunately led them back to The Coach House. The rest of us took a little longer, stopping on route to paddle in the lake. By 6pm we had returned safely, some a little bruised, some with sore feet, but everyone enjoying their adventure.
After a good nights sleep we returned back to Hertfordshire. Money raised has reached about £1300.00 and will be split between 5 charities - Herts Air Ambulance, Wood Greann Animal Shelter, Sue Ryder Care, Woodlands Residential Home and TRACKS (autism) A Great Adventrue for us all.

On the 2nd of July the mighty slaves rolled into Sandridgebury and set the stage alight for the annual Slaves@Sandridgebury event.
A great time was had by all and nearly 500 people raised thousands of pounds for charity. County Chairman Jamie Burrows commented "It was great to see so many people there. It was for a great cause and at the end of the day even if you arent there for the charity then the Slaves are simply BRILLIANT!"
The Slaves will be back next year so watch this space!

Herts YFC Swim to Victory!
In February 2010 5 members from St Albans Seniors participated in the Isabel Hospice 100 mile star swim. The aim being to swim a total of 100 miles, which is actually quite a long way - 6400 lengths, between all participants, and by doing so raise money in the form of sponsorship for the hospice. We had an hours slot to swim as far as we could and managed to swim a total of just over 5 miles fully kitted out in star costumes kindly made by Techno. The swimathon was a great success, the the 100 mile target was easily completed. It was a great way to support a brilliant local charity which does vital work within the community. A very enjoyable time was had by all and a well deserved pub lunch was our reward!

The office is now fully open up and running. If you are passing then it would be great to see you.
Our Antipodean Travellers - Summer 2008
As many of our members know James and Tom (N. Herts YFC) are down under in New Zealand along with Jamie Camp (Rib Valley YFC). Well a little update on their happenings. THEY ARE ENJOYING THEMSELVES, they say they are working hard but who knows……. At the moment they have been combining oats and barley. James and Tom are living together in a house owned by a guy, Steve. Jamie is only a few miles away and he has gone out with AgriVenture.
Below is a photo of Tom, he looks really busy, and Tom has been able to take some time out and already done some travelling around the Island. The boys meet up all together some Wednesday evenings when all the Brits have a get together. Hopefully we shall see them back again, our membership and clubs need them, but who knows……. Sally, Laura and Pete are due to go and visit Tom shortly and hope they have a great time.
